The Latest Waukesha Eagles News
Fellow Eagles,
There are GREAT things happening at YOUR
Club!! We had a historical event (for us) on August 10, 2010;
we initiated SEVEN new members into membership and the FIRST Woman
ever. In fact there were FIVE Ladies (5) at one time, along
with Two men. (see picture)
We are on a roll for membership, there
are two more to be initiated from a previous meeting, and at the
last meeting, we voted acceptance on two more, one man and one
woman.
Their initiation will be September
28,2010.
Our new members have some ideas that 'we
haven't tried" and we are open to their suggestions.
The new members are already participating
in Aerie Fundraisers, as Leah volunteered to Chair the Diabetic
Research Committee.
Stop in and be a part of your club and show support for our new
members.
Change is Good!!
Along with the 'new' kitchen, several new
Trustees, and a bunch of new / old / carryover and ongoing changes,
the Club is moving on in a great fashion!! And we are trying
to keep up 'with the times'. You can expect to see more and
better things happening at the Club. For one, we will be
re-starting the Friday Night Fish Fry in the near future. It
will be a different format then in the past, stay tuned to the
Newsletter for more information.
Better yet, show up at a meeting, find out what's happening and be a
part of it, things are interesting and informative.
If you have anyone that may be interested
in becoming an Eagle, have them fill out an application and we will
take it from there.
Again, we are on a roll, be a part of it!!
Sincerely Yours, YOUR Worthy President,
John Bousman

On Tuesday November 24th the Waukesha Eagles Aerie 453 on 709 N. Grandview Blvd made two significant donations and recognized a third.
The first donation was a grant from the State Eagles of $1500 went to the Medical College of Wisconsin directly to Dr. Carol Williams to support her research into Breast Cancer. The Waukesha Eagles had a member (Scott Noll) participate in a Harley Ride ”ridin to a cure” riding with the Rock River HOG Chapter of Harley riders that do a annual ride in support of this cause. The Waukesha Eagles sponsored our member Scott for $250 for this specific ride. Also a point of interest, Dr. Williams herself participated in this same ride with Scott just a few bikes behind him! If you need information on riding in 2010 feel free to visit the website at: www.ridintoacure.com for all information and history.
The second donation went right here in the City of Waukesha to the Salvation Army in support of their wonderful program; Snack Pack Backpacks for children in Waukesha. The amount given to this program from the Waukesha Eagles was for $1200. To make a donation or find out how you can help contact the Salvation Army at: (262) 547-7367 or visit their web site at: www.waukeshasalvationarmy.org

Waukesha Eagles #453 have teamed up to help the National Center for Learning Excellence (Head Start) by donating the money to purchase an AuDx OAE Hearing Screening System.
The donation from the local Waukesha Eagles was $3000 and an
additional $1000 came from the Jimmy Durante Children's Fund through
the National Eagles Grand Aerie. This donation will cover the
entire cost of the new equipment as well as some additional
consumable supplies.
The new Hearing Screening System will help check the younger
children as well as the older ones much quicker and more accurately
than current equipment. It is a state of the art system that
was thought to be out of reach for the immediate future because of
limited funding until the Waukesha Eagles asked how they could help
.
The Eagles motto has always been, "People Helping People" and they
continue to show their support for the Waukesha Community. The
Waukesha Eagles have been around since the early 1900's and have
really come alive over the past few years with their continued help
and generosity to many local community programs such as: Waukesha
Food Pantry, Salvation Army, Hebron House, Waukesha Local #5 DAV,
Faith in Deed among a few as well as continuing to give to selected
their National Charities.
The Eagles are a not for profit organization located at 709 N.
Grandview Blvd in Waukesha. They invite everyone to stop in
and to have some fun. There is regular entertainment both in
front bar and the back hall, as well as other events to raise the
money they give to all their charities. Details of events and
announcements are posted on their website:
www.eagles453.org. Stop in, enjoy the camaraderie!

Salvation Army Snack Pack Program
Article on the Snack Pack
Waukesha Salvation Army program feeds kids on weekends
By Erin Richards of the Journal Sentinel
Waukesha - At Whittier Elementary School, dozens of students this fall started walking out of school each Friday with far more than homework in their backpacks.
Zip open any of these donated backpacks, which are heaped in a room students visit before leaving school at 1103 S. East Ave., and you're likely to see fruit cups, instant oatmeal, toaster pastries or ingredients for a pasta dinner.
As part of a discreet new way to get low-income kids provisions for meals over the weekend, the Waukesha Salvation Army's new Snack Pack program sends home groceries to 63 Whittier families.
The program is an extension of the Salvation Army's well-attended Feed the Kids program, a summertime outreach effort that provides financially needy students with a midday meal even when school isn't in session.
The food in the snack packs is kid-friendly and relatively nutritious, though students can usually find a few sweets stashed inside, too.
Following similar programs started recently by other Salvation Army and Second Harvest groups, the Snack Pack program is a response to local parent surveys that showed one in five families were skipping meals or going hungry over the weekend, said Rachel Fjellman, Waukesha Salvation Army social services director.
"We had a donor provide the money to purchase backpacks, and the Waukesha Eagles (Aerie #453) donated $1,000 for food," Fjellman said. "The backpacks make it seem more like the kids aren't accepting charity."
Come Monday, Whittier students who participate in the program toss their empty backpacks into a bin. Salvation Army volunteers then fill the bags up each Thursday and truck them back to school on Friday.
"There's a line out the door every week, so we know the parents value the program," Whittier Principal Bill White said.
Fjellman said officials hope to expand the Snack Pack program to Saratoga Elementary School in 2009. But the program may be limited to those two schools unless Salvation Army food donations increase dramatically, Fjellman said.
As for Whittier, the school's participation in the Snack Pack program - and its relationships with local businesses that provide families with everything from gas cards to winter coats - is largely the result of White's aggressive efforts to forge community partnerships.
An amiable native Kentuckian, White took over the school five years ago and has created partnerships with a half-dozen local businesses.
His goal: Remove as many obstacles as possible from a child's life to maximize learning potential and minimize behavioral problems.
So far, White said, those efforts haven't translated to noticeably higher state test scores. But overall student behavior and parent engagement have both improved dramatically, he said.
"We feel like we're starting to see nice growth," White
